After many years of thinking about it, I finally plunged into the world of natural deodorants and for my first trial I went with Salt Of The Earth's travel sized product. I wanted to give you a quick review, my thoughts of moving from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant and why I've decided to make this change.
I've always been interested in an alternative to my antiperspirant. I've never really liked the idea of using chemicals on my body and after hearing about this product from Niomi Smart's video I thought I'd give this natural deodorant a go. Off I trotted to Holland & Barrett where I decided for my trial I would purchase the travel sized version. I was a bit worried that it might be a bit heavy to travel with compared to my antiperspirant but it's the perfect size and is still light enough to chuck in my bag if needed.
What makes it natural is its one ingredient, Potassium Alum. This ingredient is a mineral salt known to be both antibacterial and natural odour protecting. One of the first things I did when I got home was to take the lid off and give it a sniff, it smelt of nothing! I was intrigued to how this was going to cover any body odour smells but trust me, it does. The whole product is made up one piece of Potassium Alum which has been formed into a smooth shape making it very easy to use. To apply this product you either wet your armpits and roll it on or wet the stone and roll it on dry armpits *please note it may sting a little when applying to freshly shaved armpits*
I've been using this product for nearly a month now and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. You need to understand that this is a deodorant, which means it won't stop you sweating but it will stop you smelling, something that took me a little while to get used to. I find that although I now sweat a little when using this, I still smell as fresh as a daisy. I've never been one to sweat loads anyway but it feels so much more natural to use this product and sweat when you're meant to sweat! I'll be interested to see how it goes in the hotter summer months as it's still rather chilly here in the UK. I'm definitely going to keep using it and if there are times when I really feel that I don't want to sweat, I may go back to using an antiperspirant for the day.
Overall I throughly recommend giving this product a go. If you're intrigued like I was, you need to give it a try!
